‘Let’s Paint Nordy’s!’ Mural Project Invites Community to Help Beautify Downtown Anchorage
Anchorage, AK – June 11, 2025 – The Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA) is excited to announce the “Let’s Paint Nordy’s!” mural project, taking place June 13–15. Led by local artist Rhonda Scott, this vibrant community art initiative invites the public to help transform the former Nordstrom building with large-scale murals celebrating Anchorage’s creative spirit.
This effort launched on May 29 and is part of a broader collaboration to beautify downtown Anchorage ahead of the annual Summer Solstice Festival and a scheduled NBC Morning Show appearance highlighting the city. In addition to the murals, ACDA will unveil a new “Welcome to Downtown Anchorage” sign featuring Alaska’s state flower, the Forget-me-not—a colorful symbol of pride and place for locals and visitors alike.
“We are proud to unite the community for this unique and creative endeavor,” said Melinda Gant, ACDA’s External Affairs Director. “This project is not just about painting a mural; it’s about fostering community pride and showcasing the talent and spirit of Anchorage residents.”
Painting sessions will occur indoors at the Transit Center in three-hour blocks across the weekend. Participation is $40 and includes all materials plus a commemorative print from Rhonda Scott. EasyPark is providing validated parking for all attendees.
